In Memory of Little Pod
This charity has been set up in memory of Angela aka 'Little Pod'. She was named after two amazing ladies with huge hearts for podencos, galgos and any other animal in need. Named for Angela, her saviour who took her into her home and loved her with all of her heart and soul and also for Angela who sadly passed away, she was the heart and soul at Tailends Refuge in England. But this wasn't just a podenco or a puppy - Angela aka 'Little Pod' was special and so much more.
Her picture was first spotted by Angela and Tina at Galgos del Sol on an email that was sent by a volunteer. She was in a perrera (a killing station) in Jerez awaiting certain death. Many dogs come to these places, free from the hell they have known in their lives but into death. For here they meet their ends, cold, hungry and sick. Those who are not sick when they arrive generally become sick, for the floors are damp and the environment cold. Cold and hard in every aspect of life. Even their death is long, drawn out and painful. The process is brutal and inhumane, for these animals do not meet their maker in warm loving arms with words of comfort. There is no love here!

You can see the harsh handiling of this puppy within the perrera, for these animals are not treated with warm hearts, nor are they looked upon for having feelings themselves. All terrified of their fates. Only a kind hearted volunteer who sends out emails with pictures to those of us who care, can give these animals the chance of freedon. Sadly there are thousands that never make it as the amount is just too many.
In a instant after seeing her picture Angela and Tina decided to try and rescue her. After the intial contact to say they would like to rescue her there was an anxious 11 hour wait. They didn't know if they had made the call in time or if it was too late to save her. It was a sleepless night for all but at 3am the following morning a phone call was received advising their bid had been successful, she had been reserved and would be on her way to safety, to them, in 2 days.
After arriving Angela aka 'Little Pod' was taken straight to the vets and although she was weak nothing sinister showed in any of her blood test results. After a few meals and when she had got her bearings she perked up. She became mischievious and playful and loved the attention she was receiving. She liked to be with other animals or people as long as they would snuggle her and keep her warm. She had a few happy days where she couldn't have been loved more. She was cuddled, stroked, kissed and encouraged to be a normal happy puppy. She was allowed to sleep on the sofa with her foster mum Angela of a night, even though she had been on it all day. Her hellish start in life was behind her and a new loving forever home awaited her... But sadly she never made it to her new home.

Angela aka 'Little Pod' showed signs of being unwell and although she was admitted in to the vets she didn't respond to treatment and started to deteriorate. It was confirmed that she had been struck down with Parvo and she was too weak to fight it. This 'Little Pod' closed her eyes in peace for the last time with warm loving arms around her. She was given the chance to know what real love was before crossing the Rainbow Bridge where her pain and suffering would no longer exist.
'Our sweet baby girl, we loved you so much and were so sad to lose you. Keep running free little one, you're suffering is over and you will be held in our hearts for always xx'.
This 3 month old Pondeco puppy stole the hearts of everybody who met her and those unfortunate not to have met her have had their hearts touched by her photo alone.
This Charity is dedicated to the Special 'Little Pod'
Who has left a huge legacy behind her that is growing in her memory.
